Driving in the United States is seen as a privilege that many people get to enjoy. Once you turn 16, you finally get to be behind the wheel of a new car and have the freedom to get from one place to another. But this is a privilege and not a right and without the proper license, driving can get you into a lot of trouble. If you have been caught driving without a license, make sure that you find the right criminal defense team to help you throughout the trial.
All states in this nation
require that you have a driver’s license that is valid in order to operate a
vehicle. In all states, it is a crime to drive:
When your license has been revoked
When you have had your license suspended
When you never had a license to begin with.
If you are caught driving a vehicle
in any of these situations, you could face criminal charges and will need a
criminal defense lawyer to help you get out of this trouble.
Driving with a Suspended
License
When your license has been
suspended, you are not allowed to drive your vehicle any longer because you
don’t have the proper licenses in order to do this. In some cases, the
suspended license is only taken away for a short amount of time and then the
period will automatically expire, allowing you to use the license again. On the
other hand, the suspension is not going to expire on its own and you will need
to apply in order to get the license back again.
Keep in mind that you should
check whether the suspension has expired or not. Driving with a license that
hasn’t officially expired the suspension, even if it’s past the time of the
suspension, is still going to get you in trouble.
Revoked Licenses
A revoked license is a bit
different than a suspended license. With the suspended license, you have just
lost the privilege of driving for a short amount of time and there is the
understanding that you will soon get this privilege back. But with a revoked
license, your license has been canceled. Sometimes this is for a short amount
of time but often this is a permanent change. If the revocation happens to not
be permanent, you can wait until the time period is over and then re-apply for
a new license. If your license is revoked permanently, you should not get
behind the wheel of a car no matter what.
Rules of Your License
It is important that you
keep your license, as well as the registrations for the vehicle in the proper
locations when you are driving. When asked by law enforcement, you should be
able to display these two important pieces. You should also have the right kind
of insurance on hand in the car. Failure to produce these papers when asked
could result in you getting into a lot of trouble if you ever get pulled over.
Also, never drive in violation of any restrictions that are on your license.
For example, if you are only allowed to drive to and from work, those should be
the only places that you go.
Driving without your license
can make things difficult. You could get into a lot of trouble because you are
not allowed to drive in the first place. If you are pulled over and caught
without a license, it is important to know your legal rights and to get the
proper help ahead of time. Make sure to contact the right criminal lawyers to
get this taken care of as soon as possible.
